Àbáse’s Awakening is an immense work of spiritual jazz. Rich in modal improvisation and contemplative rumination on the cyclical nature of existence, the producer and multi-instrumentalist draws on classic Lagos Afrobeat, traditional Hungarian folk, Yoruba rhythms, house and techno, hip-hop and an impressive cast of collaborators to present an invigorating and affirming interrogation of life.
