UV-TV’s Always Something

uvtv.jpeg

Formed in Gainesville, Florida before migrating to Brooklyn in 2018, UV-TV have spent the past six years perfecting a brand of dark and infectious indie rock all their own. On their third full-length effort, Always Something, the trio of guitarist-songwriter Ian Bernacett, drummer Ryan Hopewell and vocalist-songwriter Rose Vastola find exciting new ways to refract sugary pop melodies through jangling guitar riffs and enveloping shoegaze ambience. This approach is best exemplified on “Plume,” a drowsy cut that comes to life in an explosion of pummeling drums and distortion. Other highlights mostly occupy the record’s first half, including the manically tuneful “Distant Lullaby,” tight power-pop goodness of "Back to Nowhere” and soaring “Superabound.”
